Well we have arrived in Vanuatu!!!
It has been a long road but we are finally here. We arrived at our new home on Feb 25th. After 3 days of travel. Immediately the bush village that we will be working with found out we were here. See since we have left a cell phone company has put up towers in the remote areas of Vanuatu. So these isolated places now have access to the outside world. Even if it is 50 cents a minute. So they climb a nearby hill to get reception and they can call anywhere in the world! Amazing!!
As I said the folks from the bush found out we were here and came to town to bring us up to our new home. What they didn't take into account was that we needed some time to live in town to get all our government paperwork done and learn language. But they came and got us anyway and took our whole family out to the bush to have a big welcome ceremony. They carried the children on their shoulders up into the jungle. Well except Shiloh and Judah they walked the whole way except crossing the river.
The council of cheifs sent a letter to the government back with us explaining they have invited us to come and we are to live with them. This has been an amazing tool used by God to clear the way for us. I have never seen such a response from the government here.
Our goal is to make ourselves and the teams of VCC (our home church) and MVI (our missions agency) available to the villages and ministries of Vanuatu to bring assistance and encouragement in the name of Jesus Christ. We have prepared a shipment of personal supplies and humanitarian aid supplies to be shipped to Vanuatu and now en route. We could use all the prayer we can get during this time of transition into full time ministry in Vanuatu. I (Brian) have been volunteering part time in Vanuatu for the past 4 years. In that 4 years I have spent a total of 4 months on 10 different islands of Vanuatu. It is now time to transition our family and full attention on the ministry there.
I have had the priveledge of meeting and working with dozens of churches, missionaries, organizations, individuals and government officials in Vanuatu in those 4 short months. We are excited to get back there and put feet to the years of prayer and preparation we have put into this endeavor.
We are always looking for volunteers and assistance to bring the love of Jesus Christ to the people of Vanuatu. Beware, many times we go thinking we come with all the answers only to find out we have much more to learn from the humble yet strong people who are the Ni-Vanuatu. They will bring you to tears with their kindness when you have come to bless them. They will give you everything they have to make you feel comfortable when you have come to give them just a portion of your time and resources. They will out work you and out walk you and out tok tok you when you have come to work hard and talk long. They won't let you carry your own bag because you are their guest and you must be cared for. They won't eat until you have had your fill. You may have heard that you can not out give God but I would like to add that you can not outgive a Ni-Vanuatu. The people of Vanuatu do not have much of the material things that we enjoy in the west but what they do have is love and it is more valuable then anything you can give them. The best part is they give it freely!
